Kathmandu, January 27: The government has made legal arrangements for Nepali citizens to join the British and Indian Army only. However, no government agency has statistics on how many Nepalis have joined the army in which country illegally.
Military experts inform that Nepali citizens have illegally joined the army of about half a dozen countries
Military experts say that Nepalis are involved in the armies of the US, France, Brunei, Russia, Ukraine, Singapore, and other countries.
Prem Singh Basnyat, ex-general of the Nepal Army, claims that Nepalis are attached to the army of these countries, contrary to Nepal’s foreign policy.
The fact that Nepalis are illegally joining the foreign army has come to light after 12 people lost their lives in the war with Ukraine in the Russian army. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed the deaths of only 10 people.
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal recently returned from a visit to Uganda and said that the government is very serious and sensitive about whether Nepali citizens have been recruited in the Russian army or elsewhere. But the PM’s seriousness has not yielded results. The government has not even taken the initiative to find out which countries have Nepalis in their army.
