Kathmandu, January 20: Senior journalist and news chief of Yoho Television, Jibaram Bhandari, is decorated with the Gobinda Biyogi Journalism Award, 2024.
Finance Minister Prakash Saran Mahat handed over a purse with 25 thousand rupees and a letter of felicitation to Bhandari amidst a function organized at the Gobinda Biyogi Journalism Research Center in Suryachour, Nuwakot, today.
The award was established by the Editors’ Society of Nepal in fond memory of its late founding chairman, Gobinda Biyogi.
Likewise, on the same occasion, senior journalist from Nuwakot, Sharan Utsav, has been decorated with the Gobinda Biyogi Special Journalism Award for his long-standing contribution to print journalism by staying out of the capital city. The award consists of a purse worth Rs 15 thousand and a letter of felicitation.
Accordingly, senior journalist and former chairman of the Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), and Manteshwori Rajbhandari, who made a remarkable contribution to the establishment and development of community radio in the country, have been felicitated on the occasion.
The Society has constructed a building in the name of the late Biyogi and runs a journalism research center in Suryachaur, Nuwakot.
The Center provides accommodation along with a well-equipped library for local and foreign journalists who want to conduct research.
Addressing the function, Minister Mahat commended the work done by Society in the field of development of journalism.
Mahat, on the occasion, said that he assumed office at a difficult time when the country’s economy was very bad. However, now, the economy is taking proper shape.
Mahat said that this is a proper time for investment, however, a study is needed to know the proper place for investment. Investors should diversify their investments for a higher rate of return.
