Kathmandu, 8 January: The Nepali Congress has finalized the names of ten candidates for the National Assembly elections.
Six candidates are from the Deuba camp, whereas, four candidates are from the Sekhar Koirala camp.
However, party general secretary Gagan Thapa has protested the decision, submitting a written letter to the party leadership.
Krishna Prasad Sitaula, who was defeated in the parliament member’s election last year, has been named the candidate for the NA membership from Koshi Province. Deuba plans to elect him as the NA chairman with the support of the alliance partners after Sitaula is elected a member of the NA. Sitaula is known to be the Indian intelligence RAW’s confidant.
Accordingly, Ananda Prasad Dhungana is named the candidate from the Madhesh Province.
From Bagmati Province, Jitjung Basnet and Bishnudevi Pudasaini have been named.
From Gandaki Province, Kiranbabu Shrestha and Padam Bahadur Pariyar have been named.
From Lumbini Province, Bishnu Kumari Sapkota is named.
From Karnali Province, Krishna Bahadur Rokkaya is named. Accordingly, from Sudoor Paschim Province, Balbahadur Bohara and Narayandatta Bhatta have been named as the NC’s candidates.
Gagan Thapa has expressed dissatisfaction for selecting names beyond the criteria set by the Central Committee.
