Kathmandu, 2 January: The Nepali Congress, the oldest democratic party of Nepal, observed its 48th National Reconciliation Day in collaboration with the communist parties on 1 January in Kathmandu.
The NC discarded the Rastriya Swatantra Party and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party’s presence in the assembly.
Moreover, those supreme leaders of the communist parties, including Sher Bahadur Deuba, President of the Nepali Congress and main host of the assembly, remarked, “loktantra’s alternate should be an improved loktantra”.
UML chair K.P. Sharma Oli, Prime Minister and Maoist Center chair Pushpakamal Dahal, and Unified Socialist Party chair Madhav Nepal, among others, who are the partners in the present power-sharing practice and enjoying the government turn by turn, declined any possibility of restoration of the institution of monarchy.
The contradiction is that on the day of recalling NC’a founding leader the late B.P. Koirala, the NC as well as communist leaders declined BP Koirala’s fundamental ideology for a collaboration between the monarchy and democracy.
At a time when the parties that have developed a syndicate and are ruling the nation turn-by-turn have become unpopular among the people, they are afraid of increasing the popularity of deposed monarch Gyanendra and thus declining the possibility of restoration of the institution.
Moreover, the assembly was turned into a blame game for the deaths of two youths in the Balkumari demonstration.
