“Alternate to republicanism should be improved republicanism”, said UML chair K.P. Sharma Oli. What is “improved republicanism”?, this Babbler is confused.
Talking about corruption, the deal used to be at the level of thousands of rupees during the Panchayat days. When the country adopted the multiparty democracy, the then prime minister Girija Prasad Koirala increased the corruption and commission deal to millions of rupees. Now, in the “loktantra” the deal has inclined to billions of rupees. Ncell deal and narrow-body and wide-body aircraft deals are examples.
Perhaps, Oli believes, the improved republicanism should be based on the deal of trillions of rupees!
It is clear that the organs for curbing corruption, commission, and money laundering, have become defunct. They cannot be made independent and strong under this system. Therefore, those senior political leaders and senior bureaucrats are free to loot the nation. Maybe, Oli is thinking about such an “improved republicanism”!
Coalition culture!
The beauty of the present constitution is the coalition culture. Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba said that none of the political parties can bag a majority under the present political system. Therefore, a coalition is obvious for the formation of the government.
How is the coalition culture functioning and flourishing, that we are experiencing in present Nepal!
“No return of monarchy”
“We cannot return to the history and we cannot return to the monarchial era again, said Sher Bahadur Deuba. Leaders enjoying power today, including Pushpakamal Dahal, Madhav Nepal, K.P. Oli, among others, believe that the monarchial system cannot be introduced again.
When those thugs and thieves are enjoying free hands to loot the nation, they never think about punishing culprits.
Bamdev Gautam recently said that there is no chance of the return of the monarchy. When a supplementary question was asked what if the monarchy will return?, the answer from Gautam was, “Then, we all be jailed!”
This is the reality.
