Kathmandu, 22 December: Afraid of possible agitation being launched by those exploited, deprived, and dissatisfied, the government has prolonged the prohibitory period for more than two months around important places. Chief District Officer of Kathmandu, Jitendra Basnet, issued the prohibition order on Wednesday. It is mentioned in the order that, on the recommendation of the District Security Committee, a prohibition order has been issued for two months.
The District Administration Office has issued a prohibition order around the Sheetal Niwas area where the President’s Office is located, up to Workshop Chowk in the east, Samakhushi exit canal in the west, National Police Training Institute in the north and East Gate in the south and the way to the police hospital.
In the Baluwatar area where the Prime Minister’s residence is located, a prohibition order has been imposed from the Old Sacred Workshop Chowk, from the Russian Embassy to Italia Chowk, from the Speaker’s residence to Gaihridhara road west-south for 100 meters. Similarly, prohibitory orders have been issued in the area 100 meters west of the Chief Justice’s residence to Lazimpat, 100 meters east of Rashtra Bank Chowk and 50 meters south of Italia Chowk.
Human rights activists have condemned the government’s decision saying that this is a move to suppress the general public’s voice.
