Kathmandu, 21 December: President Ramchandra Paudel has appointed six new judges in the Supreme Court following the recommendation of the Parliamentary Hearing Committee in the Federal Parliament.
Four judges of the high courts -– Sanranga Subedi, Abdul Aziz Musalman, Mahesh Sharma Paudyal, and Tek Prasad Dhungana – and other two advocates, Sunil Pokharel and Bal Krishna Dhakal, have been assigned as the judges in the Supreme Court.
President Paudel appointed them on Wednesday, following the Parliamentary Hearing Committee’s recommendation.
Pokharel and Dhakal have become SC judges from the political quota. Pokhrel is a former secretary-general of the Nepal Bar Association while Dhakal also served as the secretary for the Supreme Court Bar Association.
After a vacancy of one and a half years, the SC got six judges; still, one post has remained vacant.
The delayed recommendation of the Constitutional Council caused a dealay in assigning new judges.
