Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has been unhappy with the performances of the ministers.
During a quarterly review meeting on government programmes and the budget held at his office on Thursday last week, the Prime Minister expressed his dissatisfaction with the works of the ministers.
Irked by the failure of many ministers to meet the targets outlined in the budget and government document, the Prime Minister warned of removing them from their posts if they did not improve their work.
It is said that the Prime Minister is not happy with the performance of Finance Minister Prakash Sharan Mahat.
Failure to perform as promised and meet expectations leads to removal from posts, the Prime Minister was quoted as saying in the meeting.
When the PM was not happy with the ministers, there were rumours that he was reshuffling the Cabinet, prompting Minister for Communication and Information Technology Rekha Sharma to refute the rumours. Furnishing the questions of Journalists during a press meet organised to make the cabinet decision public on Sunday, she said that the reshuffle of the Cabinet was not a priority.
Besides Mahat, the PM was said to be displeased with Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha, especially because NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba and UML chair KP Oli have been exerting pressure on him for Shrestha’s removal because of his tough stance against corrupt leaders.
During Thursday’s meeting, the Prime Minister directed ministers and secretaries to ensure effective results and public service in line with government policies and programs. He stressed the need for people to realize a change in government service delivery.
“The government under my leadership is nearing a year in office. However, we have not been able to deliver to the people as per their expectations,” he reminded, urging ministers and secretaries to conduct an objective review of the annual programmes, plans, and projects. He appealed to all of them to correct mistakes and advance activities that encouraged the people.
He asked all ministries to present clear action plans in the next review meeting.
However, ministers said that they were unable to work because of interference of the PM and his secretariat in their work.
The Secretary at the Prime Minister’s Office, Ganesh Pande, had presented the four-month progress report in the meeting.
