Not a day passes without one of the dons of the various Mafia families (the so-called political parties), but above all, the ‘don of dons’ Pushpa Kamal Dahal, the prime minister of the defunct Himalayan Secular Democratic Republic, talking outright nonsense.
The latest:
- He claims that Nepal’s multi-cultural democratic society has made national unity
(The Rising Nepal, Dec. 17)
The fact is that the various Mafia families/political parties and their dons have undermined democratic institutions and practices right from the grassroots.
- Dahal also said recently that Nepal is giving a new message of humanity to the world!
This is supposedly reflected in the constant efforts devoted to humanitarian services.
No doubt, spin doctors are at work here, but the dons also seem to believe in their own lies and hogwash!
The Naked Truth
But we have it from the horse’s mouth. The Nepali Times reported in its No. 1190 : “2023 is ending as the most scandal-ridden year in Nepali history with a new scam almost every week” (15-21 Dec).
An editorial of the same edition notes: “Dahal’s tenures have been marred by missteps, political interference, nepotism and allegations of rampant corruption. The coalition that he heads has squandered the mandate of elections.”
“Governance is at a standstill, the economy is stagnant, and even by Nepali standards this has been an exceptionally scandal-ridden year with back-to-back exposes of corruption.
Trust & Performance
Jiba Raj Pokharel, a columnist of The Himalayan Times has taken a novel approach in castigating the current government/criminal gang.
Leaning on the work of the Polish sociologist Piotr Szompka, he exposes the dismal performance of the current government in all 7 parameters of trust:
- Regularity or Punctuality
- Efficiency or ability to complete work on time.
- Reliability gauged by the quality of consistent performance.
- Representativeness is about ensuring participation of each and everybody.
- Fairness is about impartiality without favouritism or discrimination.
- Accountability is about acting with responsibility.
- Benevolence is about kindness.
In each and every factor, the Nepali people have lost the complete trust of not only the present government, but the political establishment as such, and the mainstream political parties.
It was now an epic battle between the forces of change and sustained development and the retrograde anti-national and anti-social elements.
It is high time for Rajendra Lingden and his band of dedicated friends to come to the help of the suppressed and suffering Nepalese people.
