Contributing think tank power to the construction of China-Nepal community with a shared future

By Our Reporter

On December 8, Sun Xiangjun, Deputy Director of the Publicity Department of the Party Committee of the Xizang Autonomous Region (XAR) and Party Secretary of the Xizang Academy of Social Sciences (XASS) led an academic delegation from XASS, paid a visit to Nepal.

China Study Centre and Makalu Book Publishing House in Kathmandu, held discussions with experts and scholars from the Centre on bilateral exchanges and cooperation in the fields of mutual visits, publishing, and research under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Upendra Gautam, Secretary General of the Nepal China Study Centre, attended the symposium.

Gautam introduced the history and current development of the Centre. He pointed out that China is a democratic nation, Nepal welcomes the rise of China, and China has presented to the world that although a country may face various difficulties and obstacles on its way forward, it will always overcome them if it strives to move forward. Under the BRI framework, Nepal and China have carried out extensive cooperation, and Xizang has played an important role in the exchanges and cooperation between Nepal and China. As think tanks, the Centre and XASS should pay more attention to and study some key issues in the implementation of RBI and put forward constructive suggestions for deepening exchanges and cooperation. It is hoped that XASS will introduce more changes and achievements in Xizang and share more successful experiences in poverty alleviation. Mohan Lohani, consultant of the Nepal China Study Centre, said he had been to China many times and is full of confidence in the China-Nepal friendship and China’s development prospects.

Sun Xiangjun expressed his respect to the experts and scholars of the Nepal China Study Centre who have made great contributions to the China-Nepal friendship. The key to China’s success, he said, lies in the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC), which has explored its own path towards modernization. China’s democracy is the most authentic and effective democracy, which ensures that national policies always reflect the interests of the people. CPC has always adhered to Marxism and combined the basic principles of Marxism with China’s specific realities and fine traditional Chinese culture so as to advance Marxism with the times. As a social science research institute, XASS has conducted many exchanges and cooperated with the Nepal China Study Centre in the past. In the future, it will further play its role as a think tank and increase exchanges and cooperation, especially in academic and cultural fields, so as to promote mutual learning and progress.

During the discussion, the two sides reached a consensus that, as think tanks, both sides should step up exchanges and cooperation from the height of the construction of the China-Nepal community of a shared future and contribute greater wisdom to the high-quality construction of BRI. The two sides also had in-depth exchanges and discussions on many practical subjects. Sun Xiangjun wrote a message in the guest book of the Centre, “Strengthening academic exchanges and promoting a China-Nepal community of shared future.”

Mohan Lohani, Advisor; Prakash Babu Poudel, Secretary; Prakash Neupane, Executive Member; Basudev Dhakal, Advisor and other members of the Centre; experts and scholars from the Institute of South Asian Studies, the Institute of Marxist Studies, the Institute of Contemporary Xizang Studies, and the Institute of Religion Studies, as well as staff from relevant departments of XASS, attended the symposium.
