Kathmandu, 16 December: Chobhar dry port has started to operate under the management of the private sector from Friday, 15 December.
A few days ago, an agreement was signed between the Nepal Intermodal Transport Development Committee and Trans Nepal TRS Logipark Pvt Ltd for the operation of Chobhar dry port. The agreement was signed between the committee and the company for sharing a minimum amount of 28.8 million rupees for five years to restore the lease and share the fees according to the rules. According to the same agreement, Trans Nepal TRS Logipark has taken over the responsibility of operating the port as of Friday.
Talking to media persons, executive director of the Nepal Intermodal Transport Development Committee, Ashish Gajurel, said that all 7 ports in the country are being operated by the private sector.
He said that the private sector will provide services and facilities based on the approved rates of the committee. He said that using the expertise of the private sector in the dry port will increase the level of service and also increase the income of the state. He said that allowing the private sector to operate the port in accordance with the concept of a public-private partnership has shown good results in terms of service and income.
