UML chair Oli manhandled in Dhankuta

Kathmandu, 15 December: UML chair K.P. Sharma Oli is manhandled by one drunken person on Thursday in Dhankuta.

Mahesh Rai of the Mahalaxmi Municipality in Dhankuta, who was in a queue of local UML supporters to greet Oli with garland, suddenly hit Oli’s head.

He intended to insult Oli, it is learned. He is said to be a supporter of those who deny the name “Koshi Province.”. They are demanding a new name for the No 1 Province with an ethnic identity.

Oli had reached Dhankuta with the Mission 84 campaign aimed at bagging a majority for the party in the general elections in 2084 BS.Rai is arrested by the police.

UML is being targeted by the communal parties, blaming the name of the No 1 province given in the UML interests.

Earlier, former minister Gopal Kiranti was arrested on the charge of obstructing UML’s Sankalp Yatra. Kirati was arrested in Khatang.

Kirati had warned of assassinating Oli and roads were obstructed to disturb the Sankalpa Yatra (Commitment Journey).

The police had arrested about a dozen identity activists, including Kiranti. Targeting UML’s Sankalp Yatra, identitarians announced a shutdown movement in the districts of Koshi province. Security surveillance has been increased in that area to prevent further tension.
