Kathmandu, 15 December: The cabinet meeting on Thursday promoted Major General Ashokraj Sigdel to the vacant post of Lieutenant General of the Nepal Army.
Efforts were made to drag Sigdel into the birth certificate controversy; however, the cabinet meeting on Thursday decided to adopt the Nepal Army recommendation.
The Nepal Army had recommended promoting Sigdel to the vacant post of Lieutenant General. The post had remained vacant since Tara Dhoj Pande, who was in the running to be the army chief, resigned from his post following an investigation into the controversy over his dual birth dates. Major General Ashok Sigdel is likely to become the chief of Nepal Army after the incumbent General Prabhu Ram Sharma retires.
