Amid growing criticism of not only the Pushpa Kamal Dahal-led government but also against the entire political system over the weeks, Prime Minister Dahal recently invited editors of the Kathmandu based media outlets and urged them to stand in the front line and fight against the anti-system campaign.
In the meeting that lasted for over two hours at his office in Singha Durbar, the Prime Minister focused more on the anti-system activities in the streets of Kathmandu and elsewhere.
It is noteworthy to mention here that while thousands of people participated in the rally organised by Durga Prasain in Kathmandu on November 23 and two days later a human sea was seen to greet former King Gyanendra in Jhapa. Moreover, the social sites are full of criticism of the government and system while the people have been fed up with the increasing corrupt activities.
The PM, as quoted by the dailies on Tuesday, told the editors, “”You know all of you fought against the feudal autocracy. The media was in the front line during that fight. Why do you now have a fault finding tendency towards the government only?”
He further went on to say that democratic republic is the essence of our system and we must take the anti-system protests seriously.
Seeking help from journalists, he said, “The responsibility falls on everybody to retaliate against such attempts. “This should never be left as the job of the government alone.”
Likewise, he defended secularism simply stating that it is constitutional provision forgetting that people were against the provision of the constitution itself.
What the Prime Minister told the media people clearly showed that the government has been afraid of the increasing popularity of the former king and the dwindling popularity of the leaders who imposed federal republic system and secularism in the guidance of the foreign forces 15 years ago.
