It seems poachers have again become active at Chitwan National Park. They killed two rhinos recently.
Two female rhinos were found dead with their horns missing near Chaparchuli Post in the east sector of the CNP.
They were killed by trapping them into ditches.
According to park officials, one of the deceased rhinos was six-year-old and another 18 years old. The horn of the six-year-old rhino was cut, and the horn of another one was removed.
The six-year-old rhino was trapped to death in a new ditch while the other fell into an old ditch.
CNP has maintained zero poaching since 2011, with no cases of single poaching for six years in the last 12 years. No poaching was reported in 2014, 2016, 2018, 2019 and 2020. Yet, 165 rhinos died in and around Chitwan in the last six years, and most of them were for natural causes.
However, the poaching incident rose this year while five of the animals died of natural death. Last year, poachers killed two rhinos in Amaltari area.
The increasing killing of rhinos for horns demands stern measures to save the rare species of animals.
