Durga Prasainled group has shown its strength in Kathmandu by organizing a massive rally on Thursday last week. Although the government as well as the main opposition party, the CPN-UML applied all their strength to foil Prasain’s planned protests in Kathmandu, thousands of people reached Balkhu to participate in his pro-monarchy and pro-Hindu kingdom rally, chanting slogans against the present political system.
Though Prasain had no political party and he planned his capital-centred demonstration by forming a group, he managed to draw a big crowd of people who were fed up with the corrupt system and its leaders.
The incompetent government, fearing Prasain, applied every measure, exploiting the available laws, to prevent Prasain from organising demonstrations. The government banned TikTok when Prasain intensified activities for the planned shows on November 23 and announced the areas including Maitighar where Prasain was to stage his demonstration, as a prohibited zone. Moreover, the UML’s sister organization, Yuwa Sangh also announced a rally for the same date and in the same venue only to foil Prasain’s plan.
As Prasain knows all UML leaders, including party chair KP Oli closely, and has been disclosing the corrupt activities of the UML leaders, the party institutionally decided to counter Prasain by announcing its demonstrations also for November 30. The rude youth associated with Yuwa Sangh reached the party palaces and other places where the supporters of Prasain were sleeping at midnight and terrified them, asking them to leave the venues. But such inhuman acts of the UML youths only increased people’s sympathy for Prasain. It was evident from the fact that Prasain’s rally in Balkhu looked bigger than UML’s in Tinkune.
Since Thursday, Prasain supporters have been demonstrating in Kathmandu while the government on Friday kept Prasain under house arrest and arrested a religious leader from Gaushala on Monday.
Prasain has proved one bitter fact the present political system has a very weak base and its leaders lack the morale to tackle any revolt raised by honest and hardworking Nepali. Prasain does not have a clean image in public, yet he managed to bring the government and major parties to their toes.
The demonstrations which Prasain has been staging is so powerful that the UML chair reached out to Singh Durbar on Tuesday to urge PM Dahal to control Prasain-led activities. PM Dahal and Oli have not had good relations for the last 10 months.
