On/Off the Record

Despite the foreigners’ conspiracy to prolong the present constitution and our political leaders’ attempts to suppress the voice against a change, people have started to come down to the streets. When the Durga Prasain-led group organized a protest assembly at Balkhu in Kathmandu on Thursday, 23 November, above 50 thousand people gathered to protest against the present political system of federalism, secularism, and republicanism.
Accordingly, when former King Gyanendra reached Birtamod, Jhapa, to unveil a statue of Great King Prithivi Narayan Shah, on Saturday, hundreds of thousands of people escorted the deposed King from the hotel in Mechinagar to Birtamod. The human sea in favour of the institution of monarchy and Hindu kingdom and against federal structure is itself a referendum against the present political system.
Such a human sea appeared in the Kathmandu streets and also in Jhapa, including other parts, and has been downplayed by the Western media as well as the Nepali media funded by the Westerners. Some foreign-paid media have even argued that the King should deny to assume the throne again. This is the terrorized mentality of those foreigners and foreign-paid media in Nepal. Indeed, the 2006 political change was designed to finish century-old Nepali culture, tradition, religion and finally Nepali identity. The 2015 constitution was imposed against the Nepali aspiration. The present system adopted by the political parties has benefited a small group of political leaders who are enjoying power turn by turn under foreign blessings. Nevertheless, they were unable to introduce good governance as they all are involved in practising rampant corruption. The situation is that the country is falling into more and more foreign debt and a certain group of political leaders are being rewarded under the foreign blessings.
The political leaders in power underestimated the general public and thought that they could continue practising rampant corruption, nepotism, favouritism, sycophancy, etc. without any fear of society.
Personally, I don’t know Durga Prasain, yet, I am convinced by what he is speaking. Indeed, he is speaking the bitter truth that we have been saying for decades. I don’t know, whether Prasain will be emerging as a leader or not, nevertheless, he chose to laud the voice of those voiceless people. I cannot predict what will be the role of Prasain in days to come, but he has an opportunity to become a nation’s saviour.
