It seems Pushpa Kamal Dahal has become the Prime Minister for the third time only to inaugurate meetings and conferences and attend trivial programmes.
Every day, he addresses at least three programmes and flies to a district outside the valley. Perhaps, he will set a record in Nepal as the Prime Minister to fly in helicopters for most times if he manages to stay in power for one and a half years.
When the Prime Minister reaches to attend the anniversary of an organisation or a dance show, leaving or postponing important meetings of the government, one cannot expect delivery from the government he is leading now.
If the Prime Minister stops attending more than a programme a day, and if does not fly by helicopter at least on Saturdays and instructs his ministers not to attend any public programme on holidays, a large amount of the budget could be saved. Moreover, the security personnel and the staff working in the personal secretariat will have a day to spend with their families. Imagine, how much money will be spent for food to the PM, ministers and their entourage during the unnecessary trips. The money could be enough to buy food for a family who lost everything in the recent quake for a week.
Earthquake victims die of cold due to lack of warm shelter
The PM and DPMs frequently visited Jajrkot and Rukum after the two districts were jolted by the quake assuring that no one would be staying under the open sky and no one would die of hunger and cold. But still, many families have been spending cold nights under the open sky. The other day, one victim died of cold. Many new mothers and babies, as reported by the media, are staying in the open. But the PM and ministers continued flying in helicopters totally ignoring the plights of the victims. Instead of working for the victims and managing immediate funding, the government has been engaged in trivial and unnecessary activities like extending the prohibited areas in Kathmandu and curtailing people’s right to expression.
The recent activities of the government show that it lacks clear vision and is confused about its priority. The PM and the Ministers are enjoying flying and delivering the stale speeches.
