
Kathmandu, 13 November: In the course of observing the five-day-long Tihar festival, people perform Gai Pooja (worshipping cows) today.
The cow is considered the next mother, according to Hindu mythology.
People offer different varieties of vegetables and wheat flour while performing pooja.
Gai Pooja and Laxmi Pooja should have been performed on the same day but this year, due to the fluctuation of time according to the lunar calendar, Laxmi Pooja was performed on Sunday and Gai Pooja is being performed this morning.
Tomorrow (Tuesday), the Newar community is observing New Year’s Day. Nepal Sambat (New Year) 1144 will start on Tuesday.
The Newar community performs Maha Pooja on the occasion.
Hindus also perform Govardan Pooja by worshipping ox on Tuesday.
