Kathmandu, 11 November: After Nepal Army Major General Tara Dhoj Pande, who was considered to be succeeding Chief of Army Staff General Prabhuram Sharma next year, tendered his resignation following an investigation into the controversy over his dual birth dates, the question of who will be the next CoAS has been raised.
Under the present structure, Major General Ashok Sigdel is the possible candidate to succeed the incumbent CoAS General Sharma next year.
Pande on Friday submitted his resignation, which was forwarded to the Ministry of Defence, Nepal Army spokesperson Brigadier General Krishna Prasad Bhandari confirmed.
CoAS Sharma is going to retire on 9 September 2024.
The government has to approve Gen Pande’s resignation.
