Bada Dasain, the greatest festival of the Nepalis, has already started. Now, the Nepalis are in the festival mood. In the course of celebrating the festival with their families, they are returning to their hometown.
The festival holds special significance in Nepali society. Nepalis are known to be warriors, and to gain divine power and strength, they worship Goddes Durga for nine days, and finally, on the tenth day, they take Prasad from Goddes Durga, which is known as the Dasain Tika. During the nine days, devotees worship different nine incarnations of the goddess who came to earth to eliminate evil. The festival is thus considered the victory of truth and the elimination of all kinds of evil.
The present era that we are experiencing in the country is dominated by those evils. Increasing rape and murder cases; impunity and pardon to those criminals who committed serious crimes such as murder; politicos are involved in protecting quintals of gold smuggling; manipulation of gold offered to the Lord Pashupatinath; grabbing the Lalitaniwas government land in an organized setting of the politicos; making Nepalis fake Bhutanese refugees through a setting; among others. There is a lack of rule of law. The jail is only for those helpless people who have no reach to the top-ranking politicians. The CIAA chief says that the level of organised corruption has increased enormously. He is unable to take action against those involved in big corruption cases. The court is not impartial, and the legislature is under the control of corrupt top-ranking politicians. The very corrupt politicians are enjoying the power, turn by turn. They are less bothered by the nation’s situation and the plight of the general public. Nepali youths see no environment to stay in the country due to the lack of employment opportunities and politicized educational institutions, and more seriously, they don’t see a future in this country. We believe that since the 1990 political change, the process of deterioration of the nation has started, and this trend has been accelerated since the 2006 April movement. Now, there is no hope at all for the functioning of the present political system, the betterment of the nation under the present political system, and the leadership of present-day politicians.
Let’s hope that Goddes Durga will bless us and save the nation by eliminating all the evils from society.
