Govt to ink only agreements!

By Our Reporter

The government had to reach three crucial agreements in a span of a fortnight because of its poor decisions while formulating the Education Bill and the poor security provided to the doctors.

When the school teachers from across the country demonstrated in Kathmandu bringing the traffic system to complete chaos for days against some provisions of the Education Bill, the government had to bow down to the teachers’ protest and inked an agreement with them. Had the government drafted the bill consulting with the representatives of the teacher’s organisations, the situation could have been averted.

But when the teachers working in the relief quota did not accept the agreement, they continued their protest and the government again inked another agreement to make all the teachers working in the relief quota permanent. It is said that the government needs Rs. 15 million to implement the agreements.

When teachers were protesting in the streets of Kathmandu, the resident doctors also launched a protest after doctors were thrashed in Hetauda and Pokhara. When the doctors closed all services except emergency ones across the country demanding security, the government had no option but to ink an agreement ensuring the safety of doctors.

However, within less than the inking of the agreement, a doctor of Kathmandu Medical College was beaten prompting the doctors to protest again.

There are now employees at the local levels who have been demonstrating in Maitighar. It seems the main job of the present government is now to ink agreement with one agitating group after another.
