Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal remarked that Madhav Nepal, chairman of the Ekikrit Samajwadi Party, got a clean chit. He is not involved in the Lalitaniwas land grab scam, PM Dahal clarified. He also claimed that Resham Chaudhari was innocent, and he got a pardon according to the law of the nation despite the Supreme Court’s objection. Perhaps, PM Dahal believes that he is above the law, otherwise, he believes that what he says is law. Indeed, what message do we get from the thousands of ‘likes’ and ‘comments’ received on an objectionable remark from Kathmandu Metropolitan City’s mayor Balen (Balendra) Shah in social networks? Mayor Balen warned of setting Singhadurwar ablaze if Metropolis vehicles are stopped by the Traffic Police. He used another objectionable word, “thieves”, to describe those in Singhadurwar.
Even if those leaders in Singhadurwar claim that they are clean, the public impression is that all the politicians are thieves and thugs. Rastriya Prajatantra Party’s Chairman Rajendra Lingden had also referred to politicians as thieves. When the Maoist Center chairman wanted to clarify that politicians were not thieves, those party workers gathered at the hall hooted out in support of Lingden.
Kleptocracy has become the main base of the present political system which has adopted federalism, secularism, and republicanism. Recently, customs officials deployed at the Tribhuvan International Airport submitted their resignations in mass to the customs department, saying that there is no environment to work at the customs office. Prime Minister is facing a problem that government officials are avoiding taking any decisions as a system has been developed that those civil servicemen will get punished, whereas, the political leadership, who are the decision-makers, gets impunity.
Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba expressed his utter dissatisfaction with the arrest of his confidant and former minister Balkrishna Khand on the fake Bhutanese refugee scam. Those honest Nepal Police officials investigating the fake Bhutanese refugee scam, the gold smuggling scam, and the Lalitaniwas government land grab scam have been transferred overnight without notice to the Home Minister. It is learnt that Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal, under pressure from Sher Bahadur Deuba, transferred the Police officials investigating different scams. Meanwhile, some Maoist leaders and their sons, including Krishna Bahadur Mahara, are found linked with those who are alleged to be involved in the gold smuggling episode. The government is trying to rescue those political leaders. Likewise, in the Lalitaniwas land grab scam, the two former prime ministers Madhav Nepal and Baburam Bhattarai were kept out from the Central Investigation Bureau’s investigation. When Mahara and other political leaders are out of the investigation net, a question has been raised — how could they dare get involved in the gold smuggling without notice to the supreme leaders of their respective parties? Mahara has publicly said that there are big fish involved in the gold smuggling, claiming that he is just a small fish.
