Prime Minister and Chairman of CPN (Maoist Center) Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s latest statement said that various kinds of conspiracies are being hatched to topple the government has raised the question of whether the present government is in crisis!

Addressing the party’s training programme in Kathmandu last week, the Prime Minister said that many efforts were made to break the alliance and topple the government, but those failed miserably. He further said that those who are trying to overthrow the government are slowly falling in the eyes of the people.

While mentioning conspiracies being hatched against the government, he also did not forget to say that the alliance was certain to last for five years if no major incident occurred.

Although what PM Dahal says looks contradicting. How can the alliance last for five years when conspiracies are being hatched? Was he telling this for public consumption alone?

Obviously, the leaders of the coalition parties are not happy with the way the government is functioning. NC is unhappy with the arrest of its leader former Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand. Madhav Nepal and Jhalanath Khanal of the CPN (Unified Socialist) are unhappy for not rejecting the implementation of MCC. Upendra Yadav of the Janata Samajwadi Party-Nepal is not happy with inducting the Janamat Party into the government. There is also dissatisfaction within the Maoist Centre while KP Sharma Oli has only goal to topple the government at any cost. However, the government will remain until NC’s Sher Bahadur Deuba wants its continuity.

Although PM Dahal did not say anything about who was hatching the conspiracies against his government. According to the gentlemanly agreement reached among the Maoist Centre, NC and CPN (Unified Socialist), Dahal will lead the government for the next two years and leave the post for Madhav Nepal.

But Dahal hinted that the alliance was not that strong so that it could survive the whole five years. The day Deuba agrees to become PM with UML’s support, the present government will not only collapse but also put the political future of Dahal and Nepal at risk because once they are out of the government, many of its leaders and cadres will join the UML. But such a chance looks slim for now.

Then who is hatching the conspiracies? As the main opposition, UML always tries to topple the government. As Dahal can hardly hide the truth for a long time, he will one day reveal the truth regarding the conspiracies. Till then, there is no option but to wait to know the truth.
