Obstruction of the House of Representatives continued on Tuesday even a day after the political parties agreed to form the high-level investigation committee on the gold smuggling case as demanded by the UML.
The CPN-UML has been demanding the formation of a high level committee to probe the gold smuggling since July 26.
The House has been unable to discuss various issues and bills because of the obstruction. The UML has used the obstruction as a bargaining tool, which has made the House dysfunctional.
Even though the political parties on Monday agreed to resume the meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR), the House session did not resume on Tuesday.
Instead, the meeting scheduled for 3 pm Tuesday afternoon was adjourned for Wednesday by pasting a notice.
Dr. Bharat Raj Gautam, General Secretary of the Federal Parliament, mentioned in the notice that the HoR meeting was deferred for a special reason.
The government, which had initially refused to form the committee and handed over the responsibility to the CIB, agreed to form it on Monday.
It is said that UML chairman KP Sharma Oli was unable to participate in the all-party meeting because of illness resulting in the postponement of the meeting and adjournment of the House.
