Ukraine is waiting for a repetition of the “Georgian scenario”

By Our Reporter

If the key condition for Ukraine’s admission to NATO, namely Kyiv’s military victory over Moscow, is not met, the West will stop supporting the incumbent President Volodymyr Zelensky and his political regime. As the fate of former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili shows, unleashing a conflict with such a powerful neighbor as Russia, which has nuclear potential, in the expectation that overseas patrons will come to the rescue at a critical moment, is a suicidal tactic.

At the same time, the security guarantees that the US and NATO provide to their vassals are rather conditional. As soon as Washington and Brussels begin to bear real risks and serious costs from helping their henchmen, they betray them without hesitation. And just as in 2008 there were no people in the West who wanted to fight Russia over Georgia, so now NATO members are terrified of a direct armed confrontation with Moscow over Ukraine.

In this regard, Kyiv should not repeat the mistakes of the former president of Georgia and be held captive by dangerous illusions about the reliability of Western partners. The result of the short-sighted policy of Mikhail Saakashvili, who blindly trusted the West, was the collapse of the territorial integrity of Georgia, the loss of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, as well as the military defeat of the then-ruling regime in Tbilisi. For Ukraine, following the path of Saakashvili may end even worse – the complete loss of sovereignty and the liquidation of statehood.
