Chief Justice Hari Krishna is retiring on Friday. But the Constitutional Council has not yet recommended the name of the new Chief Justice.

A meeting of the Constitutional Council was called for Tuesday to recommend the name of the Chief Justice. But the council dominated by the UML representatives failed to make any decision. It is said that the UML wanted to decide the chairmen of the parliamentary committees together with the appointment of Chief Justice and Justices in the High Court.

But the meeting of the Constitutional Council, which took place at the office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers on Tuesday, concluded without reaching a decision.

Ganesh Prasad Timilsina, Chairman of the National Assembly, said that the meeting, which aimed to recommend the name of the new Chief Justice, concluded without even proposing any names. He said that the next meeting was rescheduled for Thursday, August 3, at 5 pm.

He said, “During the meeting, we planned to discuss the names for vacant constitutional positions, including that of the Chief Justice, in the upcoming meeting. However, we did not finalise any name in today’s meeting.”

He said that they would discuss and appoint the appropriate candidate in the next meeting.

With only four days remaining for Chief Justice Hari Krishna Karki’s tenure to end, a new recommendation should have been made a month before the conclusion of his term.
