As People’s Review enters its 33 years of publication, we take this opportunity to talk a little about ourselves. The mottos that appeared on our masthead “Let Nepal Be Nepal”, and “Say No to Foreign Interference and Intermediation,” speak a lot about the mission of the People’s Review and its team. Our Consultant Editor Emeritus, Manaranjan Josse, had suggested placing these two quotes along with the masthead. Surely, those foreign puppets and vested groups serving foreign interests may not like us, yet, those patriotic people who are dedicated to the nation are our admirers, supporters and strength.
We have noticed that the Audit Bureau of Circulation has categorized the publication as an “A” class newspaper. Moreover, among the weekly publishing from Nepal, People’s Review is the only English weekly newspaper ranked in “A” category. This is a glorious moment for us.
When our Members of Parliament openly advocate for dismantling the institution of the Nepal Army, when they advocate in favour of the de-industrialization, when they are lobbying for sending Nepali youths abroad as an untrained labour force, when they ratify the new citizenship law granting instant citizenship to those foreigners married to the Nepali nationals, when our sitting prime minister believes that he was rewarded the post of the PM by Delhi, when our mainstream media are running under mission set by the Open Society, we are compelled to fight against different fronts at once.
Patriotism is the prime duty of all citizens but we see traitors in all sectors. Our party leaders and high-ranking bureaucrats are ready to serve the foreign powers just for green cards for their kids and themselves; just for student scholarships and just for a handsome amount of money for them.
When we advocate Nepali interests, a section may hate us but we don’t mind as our patriotic readers have always commended us for our job. Due to their moral support, we are here today. Since the nation adopted a multiparty democracy and now loktantra, we have remained as a watchdog lauding against all types of anomalies and the present loot-tantra. We are for the independence, sovereignty, and indivisibility of the nation. We are for good governance, corruption control and the rule of law and we are always against the present perversion that existed in all the organs.
We believe that federalism, secularism and republicanism cannot save Nepal, therefore, we want the removal of such a system imposed by foreigners which has become a white elephant for Nepal. Our mission thus is for saving our motherland!
