NC in doldrums, party unable to organise “policy” convention

By Our Reporter

The Nepali Congress, the oldest and largest party, has been in the doldrums thanks to party president Sher Bahadur Deuba for not calling central committee meetings for months.

According to the party statute, the NC should call its central committee meeting once every two months. But party president Deuba has not called it for months. Even he has not called a meeting to review the elections held in November last year.

As Deuba is an expert in not abiding by the party statue and is responsible for the mess in the party, he tends to avoid his criticism in the meeting by not calling any meeting. The party president has to constitute the party department within six months after the general convention, but Deuba has not dared to organise the convention of many of the sister organisations even two years after the general convention.

Now he is avoiding the policy convention of the party which should have been held after the general convention. Although the party general secretaries and leaders have been demanding the central committee meeting as well as the policy convention, Deuba is ignoring them. Instead, he has mobilised leaders and ministers close to him to counter such demands.

Because of the incompetency of the leadership, many youth leaders have already deserted the NC and joined the Rastriya Swatantra Party, and if Deuba and other leaders do not act according to the demand of the time, the party is sure to face a humiliating defeat in 2084 elections. But Deuba and his men have not realized this, they have only a goal to make Deuba the PM for the record sixth time!
