Kathmandu, 3 July : By arresting those who sold the land of Lalita Niwas in the name of individuals, the government has sent a message that the rule of law still prevails. But as before, it is Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s duty to continue investigation and book the culprit. The wrong-doers, under any pretext should not be spared.
In this case, not only the high officials of the state, but also the constitutional organs and judges have repeatedly appeared on the side of the individual. It has also curbed the power and reach of the land mafia. The case, which had been investigated by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police, was closed during the time of the then Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba.
Now Deuba is the main partner of Dahal who pressured the public prosecutor’s office not to proceed with the case, so there is still the suspicion that Prime Minister Dahal will make a compromise in the name of protecting his seat. No one else can prevent that suspicion from coming true, only the Dahal government can. It was a big mistake for the then government to dump the file from going forward even though the CIB found 400 people guilty in the case involving former Prime Ministers Madhav Kumar Nepal and Baburam Bhattarai.
No matter how high-ranking official is involved in corruption, sooner or later action will be taken against the culprits. This case is a big test for the government and it has no facility to fail this exam.
