Three years after he broke the CPN-UML and formed the CPN (Unified Socialist), Madhav Kumar Nepal is now facing an existential crisis as many of the leaders who were with them when he formed the new party had started returning to the mother party. After Mukunda Neupane returned to the UML, many leaders including Ram Kumari Jhakri are said to be making preparations to return to the UML.

After his party, CPN (Unified Socialist) fared badly in the elections last year and even failed to become a national party, many of the party leaders and workers became frustrated. Even those who lost the elections looked desperate regarding their future political career.

However, to address the frustration, leader Nepal and CPN-Maoist Centre recently formed a Socialist Front of four parties. But when many of the CPN (Unified Socialist) cadres are not positive towards the Maoists and do not want unification of their party with the Maoist Centre, they may prefer the UML shortly. Even party senior leader Jhalanath Khanal is not happy with the way Nepal has been working and the performance of the party.
