BABBLES

Again, sugarcane farmers have arrived in Kathmandu for organising demonstrations demanding payment of their impending dues to be received from the sugar factories. Farmers are not receiving payment from the sugar factory for the last nine years.
Earlier, we read that sugarcane was a cash crop but in this loot-tantra, it has become a credit crop. Perhaps, this is the best example of “socialism”. Maybe, our government is thinking about increasing domestic products by discouraging those farmers from producing raw materials for the sugar factory!
The benefit of open border
The government exchange rate of the Nepali rupee with the Indian rupee is fixed at one unit of the Indian rupee equals 1.60 Nepali rupees. Some months ago, in the informal market at Nepal-India border points, it was 1.65 Nepali rupees for one unit of the Indian rupee. Nowadays, it has surprisingly declined to 1.55 rupees. How was it possible, a big surprise!
The reason is that when the Nepali banks became ready to pay higher rates of interest, the Indians rushed to Nepal for bank deposits of the currency they had. Finally, when the Indian government felt a liquidity crunch in the market, it was compelled to announce the demonetization of the two thousand rupees notes. A lesson to learn by India for keeping open its border with Nepal.
Be that as it may, if kept border opened, India may face serious consequences in future.
American concern
American President Joe Biden and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared a “rare” hug apprising Modi’s popularity at the G-7 Summit in Hiroshima, Japan.
Contradictorily, Antony J. Blinken the U.S. Secretary of State recently released a report on International Religious Freedom alleging that India’s ruling party Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is indirectly funding high-profile politicians of major parties in Nepal including Rastriya Prajatantra Party to speak in the favour of Hinduism. The Nepal government is silent on the issue, however, RPP has deplored such an allegation saying it is baseless and false.
We are aware that since the introduction of the present loktantrik system, Nepal has been declared a secular nation and Christianity has flourished enormously. Surely, the US is funding the Christianity campaign in Nepal. Be that as it may, it is a serious allegation against the ruling BJP government led by the same Narendra Modi in India.
This also reflects differences between the Biden government in the US and Modi government in India.
India should not forget what renowned American diplomat Henry Kissinger has said, “America has no permanent friends or enemies, only interests”.
Free Electricity
The government has decided to provide additional units of electricity free of cost for those lower-class families using the minimum ceiling of electricity.
Will this help lower-class people and will this help increase the consumption of electricity by substituting the firewood or LPG? We don’t believe so. If the Nepal Electricity Authority will take minimum charge or give compensation to those lower-income group, they will feel that they have paid the price to the government. They will know the value of their payment.
Likewise, distributing land or houses for the squatters will never solve the issue of a landless population. If settled one group’s problem, another group will appear. Of course, the real squatters will be benefitted if the government decides to provide land to those registered landless people at a compensated price.
Making people responsible and self-reliant is more important than supporting them their entire life.
QUOTES OF THE WEEK
I visited the King’s palace. I also visited the Sri Sadan, the palace where King Birendra lived. I was surprised to see very small bedrooms. I saw that the kings were spending a very simple lifestyle even than the people.
King Birendra used to say, “Our expenses are financed by the taxes paid by the people, we should not misuse the taxpayer’s money “.

The practice of assigning own children/nephews/sister-in-law as secretaries and assistants in the office by the president, prime minister and minister is for corruption.
After seeing the example of many leaders’ children becoming a source of corruption, Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal should first remove his daughter from the PM’s secretariat.

One minister said that cooperative and collective farming will be done on barren land. What a good and modern idea! But who will do the farming? If there were farmers, why would people keep the land barren? It would be a good beginning if the minister take a lead role in collective farming and show it by farming on some land!

The British monarch is the head of the Church of England. Bhutan follows the tradition of Buddhism. US presidents take an oath by touching the Bible. Therefore, what is the objection to America in worshipping Mother Saraswati in schools in Nepal?

Flourished after the political changes of 2006:
“Fake” fighters in Maoist camps; “fake” squatters in Kathmandu; “fake” refugees in refugee camps; fake journalist/editor in media houses; fake federalism and secularism in the Constitution

Within a year, the number of students going abroad to study increased by 175 per cent. Why doesn’t anyone want to study at home?
Santa Gaha Magar
Why youths are going abroad to study?
Reasons: Uncertain future; low quality and outdated education; low standard; no international recognition; timely and costly; calendar-less system; no job opportunity and much more!

This G-7 meeting was kept in Hiroshima deliberately to remind if any party does an unwarranted act so finally, the last result was Hiroshima to close the chapter. Without telling anymore Ukraine should understand it and doesn’t force any party to at this level. Be wise.
