Comedians and jokes

On/Off the Record

By P.R. Pradhan

Comedians entertain the audience by presenting funny jokes, satires and caricatures. We enjoy satire, fun and jokes presented by them. When a comedian’s role is performed by a political leader, it becomes odd. Sometimes, the leaders will also try to entertain the audience by making fun. If the leaders try to use such funny things excessively, we believe, either they have become abnormal or they are trying to fool the audience.

Our leaders try to act like comedians, maybe, they believe that the audience has been exhausted from their clumsy address and for their refreshment, the leaders speak funny things.

Just recently, addressing a gathering, Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal remarked that the monarchial rule had made the country bankrupt, however, since introduction of the republicanism, the country’s economy has been uplifted from a bankrupt situation.

According to him, the country was to collapse if the institution of monarchy was not abolished.

Such a remark is nothing else than fun at a time when the country’s debt burden is going to cross the “red zone” of the nation’s GDP. The country’s general sector expenditure has inclined to an alarming point that the revenue-expenditure indicator has gone negative. The country’s general sector expenditure is excessively higher than the revenue generated by the nation. Therefore, the Finance Ministry is knocking on international financial institutions bagging debts and also the central bank is issuing bonds just to manage the funds necessary for the budget for the new fiscal year.

Remittance has become the major source of national revenue. This speaks a lot. As youths didn’t get job opportunities within the country, they are compelled to go to the Gulf countries for dirty and risky jobs. Youths from upper-class and middle-class families are going abroad for higher education as they don’t trust local education. Retired high-ranking government officials are going abroad, mainly to the USA and Canada for permanent settlement with their families as they didn’t see the future in this country. Similarly, people, expertized in their field are going to Europe and America in search of better jobs and earnings. Look at the fake Bhutanese refugee scam, how those top-ranking leaders and the top-ranking officials at the Home Ministry were involved in the network sending Nepali nationals to the USA by taking a hefty amount of money as a commission from their own citizens! Should we need to speak much about the state of present-day Nepal, which is on the verge of collapse?

To what extent are the financial irregularities made in the management of those PLAs in the cantonment, let PM Dahal ask Dr Baburam Bhattarai. The Maoist Centre led by PM Dahal aka Prachanda captured the bank cheque handed over to the PLAs in the cantonment and took commission from them. According to a video which was become viral on social media, Maoist supremo Prachanda was addressing the party workers saying that they became successful to exploit the government fund allotted for the Maoist PLAs by exceeding the number three times more than the actual number seven to eight thousand PLAs.

Unrurtanetly, today, such a corrupt person is the prime minister of the nation. What contribution should we expect from a corrupt and cunning leader? It is not odd that he is such an opportunist leader that he is ready to sell his motherland if he sees personal gains. Not a surprise, both Prachanda and Baburam Bhattarai had written a letter to the Indian government expressing their commitment to working on Indian interests. None other than anti-Nepal scholar SD Muni has disclosed this fact.

To conclude, Prachanda is a representative of foreign powers than a leader of the Nepali people, who is for the destruction of Nepal further. If he had little love for this nation, he would not have pushed the nation towards such an economic crisis by introducing a political system squeezing and exploiting commoners.
