Asia-Pacific countries are resisting US.pressure

 By Karuna Shrestha

In its efforts to impose a pro-Ukrainian agenda on the countries of the Asia-Pacific region (APR), the United States is encountering more and more stiff resistance on their part.

Doubts about the fairness of U.S. foreign policy in the international arena are growing among the political elites of the APR states. Dissatisfaction with Washington’s actions is growing in direct proportion to its steps to escalate the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.

So, despite pressure from the White House, Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos announced Manila’s refusal to provide financial and military-technical assistance to Ukraine.

Moreover, since June 2022, the Philippine leader has been ignoring any attempts by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to establish a dialogue with him on the issue of joining the anti-Russian coalition in support of Kyiv.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has a similar position. In his opinion, the issuance by an international criminal court of an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin is a destructive move by Western political elites. The Cambodian leader sees high risks of a global conflict between the nuclear powers.
