President Ramchandra Paudel is now staging a drama by holding consultations with legal experts on whether to seal the citizenship amendment bill or not. We know, the sole purpose of the election of Paudel to the post of President is sealing the citizenship amendment bill. Considering the possibility of rejection of such controversial bills by the President representing UML, the UML-Maoist Center coalition was changed. The new coalition was developed with the condition of electing Paudel to the post of President.
If the alliance partners are honest with the country, they should not have asked the President for sealing the bill that was rejected by outgoing President Bidya Devi Bhandari.
The same coalition partners, by rejecting the other bill having the provision of providing naturalized citizenship to those foreigners married to a Nepali national only after certain years of stay in Nepal, had endorsed a new citizenship bill removing articles creating hurdles in instantly receiving Nepali citizenship. The present impending bill at the Sittal Niwas has omitted such a provision by adding the provision of granting Nepali citizenship on the next day of the marriage by foreigners to Nepali citizens.
The Indians have shown keen interest in granting instant citizenship to foreigners, which is not even possible in India. The Nepali political leaders have shown an extreme example of flattery to their Indian bosses.
A national shame
Whether we believe it or not, Swarnim Wagle quit the Nepali Congress party blaming the “most corrupt lady” on the spouse of his party boss.
After the release of an audio record by a broker who was involved in the rocketing for sending Nepali nationals to the US disguised as Bhutanese refugees, Arzu Rana, Manju Khand and then home minister Balkrishna Khand are seen involved in the scam, although, they have denied.
According to retired Nepal Police SSP Bigyan Sharma, then-minister Khand had forced the Police to release two brokers who were under Police custody. He said that around 400 million rupees have been collected from Nepali citizens for sending them to the US.
It is shameful that the top-ranking leaders were involved in this human trafficking scam. Most shameful is that the leaders were involved in sending the Nepali nationals disguise in the Bhutanese refugees. What can we expect from such leaders who are involved in trafficking Nepali nationals?
Leaders meeting for what?
Former DPM Top Bahadur Rayamajhi is still missing. He is out of contact. Meanwhile, UML chairman K.P. Sharma Oli called on Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal two times. Besides, on Tuesday, three leaders — Dahal, Oli and NC president Sher Bahadur Deuba — held a meeting. They didn’t disclose the meeting agenda.
Top-ranking leaders are involved in the refugee scam. They are from the NC, UML and Maoist Center. Are they meeting for dismissing the case?
