Nepal has turned into a factory for producing political leaders instead of producing goods.
In the past 33 years, we saw 14 prime ministers and thousands of ministers. The concept of federalism has been introduced just to give employment to political leaders. Our universities have not remained educational hubs but they have turned into training centers for becoming a political leader in future.
We know, industrialization in the country is essential for economic prosperity and education is important for producing good citizens and necessary manpower for the country but our leadership, by undermining these facts, have given priority to producing political leaders. More seriously, those leaders have learnt the ideology of serving foreign bosses instead of serving their own citizens!
Notably, politics has flourished in the country as it doesn’t need financial investment but guaranteed a good profit margin.
Victims of loan sharks
Our illiterate villagers have been extremely exploited by loan sharks. As poor and village people are out of the reach of the banking system, they are compelled to pay the interest rate above 36 per cent. As they are illiterate, they cannot read the document as that how much amount has been written in the bond paper. They are the real victims of loan sharks. The government, if wished, can punish those loan sharkers immediately but the action against them could be costly for the political leadership as those loan sharkers hold the capacity of finishing the political future of those leaders.
As the government has remained indecisive in resolving the issue raised by the loan sharkers, the victims are demonstrating in the streets. The victims have no trust in the government talk team and the committee. Therefore, they are continuing demonstrations in the Kathmandu streets.
Meanwhile, a section of businessmen is campaigning for not paying back the bank loans. The fact is that only 20 per cent of people have the reach on the banks. Those 20 per cent of people belong to the business community. Reducing the bank interest rates focusing only on those 20 per cent of the population seems odd at a time when many Western countries have also increased the bank interest rates.
Particularly, talking about Nepal, if reduced the bank interest rates, unofficial channels will become active such as the Hundi business and the trend of capital flight will intensify. The reason is that for decades, Nepal has not reviewed its exchange rate with the Indian currency.
Mission pleasing India?
Why our prime minister is so anxious to visit Delhi? Since 1990, it has become a silent tradition for every new prime minister to put his first leg to Delhi after assuming the office of the prime minister in Nepal. It looks like presenting a letter of credence to the Indian bosses after becoming the prime minister here. There are countless problems between Nepal and India. They are unresolved. We don’t believe that our prime minister has the courage for resolving those disputed issues including the return of India encroached territory. It is sure that he intended just pleasing the Indian leaders and be blessed by them.
QUOTES OF THE WEEK
Filmmaker Radha Bharadwaj once tweeted, “When the slave will whip himself after the master has long gone, the work of colonialism is complete”.
Nepal, in its bikrit baambad, shows the worst form of mental colonialism in its current dispensation.
Dipak Gyawali
He (the President) has been in politics all his life, yet, he needs a political advisor. Currently, he is a ceremonial chief of the nation. Why he needed financial, legal and press advisers? The President’s Office has turned into an adviser recruitment center.

Harka Sampang A Revolution
The people should not be allowed to die like this (victims of loan sharks). If the government fails to deliver justice, it should resign, otherwise, drastic measures should be taken to save the lives of the people.
