Xi Jinping has become the President of China for the third term, becoming the longest-serving president since 1949. His third term as China’s president was officially endorsed in a ceremonial vote on Friday.
China has made unprecedented progress under Xi in the last one decade. China, now the second largest economy in the world, has successfully expanded its strength across the globe with its strong presence in the market economy as well as political and bilateral activities.
The National People’s Congress endorsed 69-year-old Xi’s reappointment as president for another five years in a ceremony in Beijing’s Great Hall of the People.
In October last year, Xi was named to a third term as party general secretary.
Xi has already announced his team for the coming term of five years. He has picked Li Qiang as his new prime minister. Li, a 63-year-old politician, hails from a coastal province just south of Shanghai called Zhejiang. Zhejiang has been this engine of economic growth for China for decades.
