How should we remember President Paudel?

BABBLES

By Babbler

Now Ramchandra Paudel is the President of Nepal. When he was the speaker, Paudel had attempted to cheat the institution of the monarchy by sending a bill for amending the citizenship law endorsed by both Houses. Making it a compulsion for the then King Birendra, the bill was covered by a finance bill as the then constitution had defined that a finance bill cannot be rejected by the King from sealing it. The institution of monarchy, which was committed to the national interests, sent the bill to the Supreme Court asking whether that was a finance bill or not. The Court said that was not a finance bill and the bill was avoided from the King’s seal.

Again, a similar bill was sent to President Bidya Devi Bhandari. She also rejected to seal on the bill.

Now, the very speaker, who had sent the citizenship amendment bill to the Palace, has reached the place from where he is authorized to put a seal on it. Sure, Paudel is going to put a seal on the bill rewarding thousands and thousands of migrated Indians with Nepali citizenship.

Indians played the game for bringing their own people to key positions just to serve their interests. Once the existing citizenship amendment bill is endorsed, the Indians married to Nepali citizens will get Nepali citizenship instantly. Long efforts were made by the Indians but the new law will soon bring Nepali people in Tarai into a minority. Within a few years, India’s migrated leaders will come to lead us.

Foul play

According to the spirit of the constitution, if the President’s post goes to a male, the VP should be a female from another community. Similarly, if the speaker is a male, the deputy speaker should be a female. It is an encouraging move for uplifting women. The election dates of the President and VP and also a speaker and deputy speaker have been thus set for different dates.

The constitution was written by the very actors who are active in politics now. However, they are playing foul. The reason is that Upendra Yadav, chair, Janata Samajwadi Party, who defeated the 20 November election, wants to be elected as the Member of Parliament from a by-election. He wanted a safe electoral constituency for ensuring his victory. The electoral constituency from where Ramshayaprasad Yadav won the election is considered to be the safe constituency for Upendra. Therefore, in Upendra’s pity interest, Ramsahayaprasad has become the candidate for the post of VP. The ruling alliance has violated the constitutional provision for the pity interest of one person. Violation of the constitution is not a new practice for political actors.

QUOTES OF THE WEEK

  • This is a projection, not a prediction:

Regional conflict is sure to increase and I see Himalayan Asia in great danger.

Recently, America said, the Sino-Indian war may happen, soon.

I wrote/said in 2010, China-India will clash for this reason in the 2020s.

Nepal at that time?

  • With the political defeat of Maoist, it has lost everything. UML has hit the wall only because of K. P. Oli. Nepali Congress is now in good fortune. But more than that, the MCC and India have “benefited”.

Do not sell the country; do not sell Nepali citizenship!

Prem Singh Basnyat, PhD

  • What is the name of Pushpa Kamalji on his citizenship? Chabilal? Pushpa Kamal? Prachanda? How dare you use the name “Prachand” in the government paper? The law does not recognize the name except the name in the citizenship. It is a big crime to put a signature just by writing “Prachanda”.

Prem Singh Basnyat, PhD

  • A single-party majority government cannot be imagined from the current constitution. Stability is not possible without a majority government. Without political stability, politics will never come to a rhythm. There is no point in saying that politics has come into its proper track after the Nepali Congress comes to the government.

Lokesh Dhakal

  • Instead of exporting, if we use the same electricity to operate industries in the country and increase production, the trade deficit will decrease from increased employment opportunities, import substitution and exports.

A unit of electricity is exported at a maximum of 10 US cents

If consumed in the country, the value increases by 86 cents.

  • Not only the economy but reforms needed to ruthlessly improve the country. Zero tolerance for wrong things.

Dr Rambhakta Thakur

  • Killing people is not a revolution. Revolution and terror are different things. Politics and crime are different things. May the court maintain its dignity.

Rajesh Ahiraj

  • If anyone has obeyed the current constitution of Nepal, it is only King Gyanendra! The rest of the leaders, the executive, the judiciary and the legislature in all areas have violated the constitution. Violation of the constitution started from the day it was promulgated.
