Nepalis who favour monarchy demonstrated in Kathmandu on Saturday under the leadership of medical entrepreneur, Durga Prasain. It was the first big demonstration of the pro-royal people in Kathmandu after the deceitful abolition of the monarchy in 2008.
Thousands of people, including a few familiar faces, participated in the rally organised under the mega campaign to save the nation, nationality, religion, culture and citizens in Prasain’s leadership. However, RPP cadres and workers who advocate for the restoration of monarchy were not seen.
In the demonstration held in Maitighar, the demonstrators chanted slogans like ‘King should come and save the country’, ‘All hail Hindu nation’ and ‘Abolish federalism’.
The Prasain-led campaign has appealed to the government to address their 13-point demands such as restoring Nepal as a Hindu nation, abolishing federalism, reducing bank interest rates and waiving loans up to Rs. 2 million.
The campaign, which started from Jhapa some time ago with the presence of former king Gyanendra Shah, has spread across the country.
However, the mainstream media, alleged for being sponsored by foreign agencies, did not give any space to the demonstration, which only showed how biased are the Nepali media. When the people saw a big mass on Saturday and not a single piece of news and photographs in the newspapers the next day, they were shocked at the way the media disseminate news in Nepal.
