Nation loses Rs 20 billion revenue due non-registration of mobile phones

Kathmandu, 4 March: Mobile Device Management Service (MDMS) was being implemented in Nepal on December 30 but Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s directive stopped MDMS before it could be implemented.

The MDMS system has been developed because illegal and stolen mobile phones are freely entering Nepal. The main objective of the MDMS system should be to register the IMEI of all mobiles entering Nepal.

The government has already spent more than Rs one billion to implement the MDMS system and about Rs 20 billion revenue has been lost due to non-implementation of MDMS, according to the Director General of  Department of Customs  Chakra Bahadur Budha.
