Kathmandu, 26 January: Former Director General of Nepal Civil Aviation Authority Rajkumar Chhetri has said that there is no reason for blacklisting Nepal’s aviation sector by the European Union (EU). While discussing with journalists in the capital on Wednesday, Chhetri, who is also an aviation expert, commented that even though Nepal has obtained a score above the basic world standard in air safety, not removing it from the blacklist is bullying of the EU towards a small country.
“The world’s average compliance rate of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is 67.2 percent. While Nepal has now got 70.8 percent marks”, he said.
“Even though, why the EU doesn’t want to remove Nepal from the blacklist, it is surprising”.
Chhetri said, “The EU has not been satisfied ever since Nepal brought in Chinese aircraft. This is why the EU does not want to remove Nepal from the blacklist even now. This is an injustice to a small country like Nepal”, he said.
