The government led by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has completed its first 30 days in office.
The Prime Minister, who was appointed to the post for the third time on December 25 last year, has unveiled the major works he carried out in a month.
In a statement issued by the secretariat of the Prime Minister on Tuesday, the Prime Minister said that he has succeeded in bringing the polarised politics of the county into the framework of national consensus in a month.
He has seen the greetings received from the prime ministers of the two neigbouring and other several countries as a sign of balanced diplomacy adopted by his government.
Expansion of the federal government and formation of provincial governments are other achievements mentioned by him.
“Because of formal and informal meetings held with the leaders of ruling coalition, the government has got its complete shape. The provincial governments have been formed and the common minimum programme of the government has been unveiled,” read the statement.
The Prime Minister is making efforts to improve the economy and has held numerous discussions with the Minister for Finance, the Governor of the Nepal Rastra Bank and other experts on the matter.
He also urged the coalition parties and the provincial governments to reduce the number of ministries at the provincial level, which has been accepted and implemented.
Prime Minister Prachanda has argued that he also addressed numerous economically and socially important public programmes where he has outlined social justice, good governance and prosperity as the priorities of the present government.
PM Prachanda has also mentioned his meeting with the victims of loan sharks, representatives of the Badi community and officials of the Non-Resident Nepali Association to understand and solve their problems as his achievements.
The present government, under Prachanda, also immediately responded to January 15’s tragic plane crash at Pokhara and formed a high-level commission to investigate, read the statement.
The Prime Minister is also committed to leading the nation from the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar. He said that in the last 30 days, he worked from his office for 21 days.
Although the Prime Minister made public his achievements in 30 days, people, in general, are not optimistic about the government. The self-immolation by an Ilam youth in front of the Parliament building on the day PM Prachanda completed his 30 days and his lengthy status showing how bad governance prevails compelling many to kill themselves or fly overseas drew the attention of more people than the lengthy statement of the PM. If one goes through the status of Prem Acharya, who killed himself on Tuesday, one can realise the true problems facing the country and its people. And if the government honestly tries to address them, it will be a big achievement.
However, the government hardly pays attention to the genuine problems of the common people. The present government may also not be different.
Within a month of formation, a rift has been already noticed in the ruling alliance. While the UML, the biggest party in the alliance is suspicious about PM Prachanda regarding the election of the president, the Prime Minister had to issue a warning against the ministers airing views against federalism. The PM on Tuesday instructed the ministers not to make any comment against the federal system. Obviously, Rastriya Prajatantra Party and Rastriya Swatantra Party, the two coalition partners are strong critics of federalism. Prachanda forms a government in their support but challenges their political ideologies. These all activities show that the government can collapse at any moment, fueling political instability in the nation.
