Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has planned to take a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives on January 10, a day after the House session convenes.
Writing a letter to the General Secretary of the Federal Parliament on Monday, Prime Minister Prachanda mentioned that he wanted to take a vote of confidence on January 10.
He was appointed Prime Minister on December 25 and a Prime Minister appointed as per Article 76 (2) of the Constitution has to show his majority in the House within 30 days of his appointment.
But Prachanda has decided to take the vote of confidence earlier probably to expand the Cabinet. Though he formed an eight-member Cabinet on December 26, he has not allocated the portfolios to four ministers.
Also, he is suspicious of the UML because the UML can fail him to take revenge against him. And if he manages to win the vote of confidence, his government will survive for at least two years.
He needs the support of 138 lawmakers in the 275-member House of Representatives to prove his majority. Now he is backed by 162 lawmakers of seven parties and independents.
