UML tries to break the present alliance

By Our Reporter

Chairman of the CPN-UML KP Sharma Oli said on Tuesday that the UML would not engage in unfair and dirty games of government formation.

Addressing a programme organised by the party in Kathmandu on Tuesday to congratulate new lawmakers, Chairman Oli said since the party is focused only on the wellbeing of the country and the people and asked the party lawmakers to strictly follow the instructions and directives of the party and the party’s parliamentary party.

He instructed the newly elected lawmakers of the party to follow the policies, decisions and instructions of the party and its parliamentary party.

Expressing his worries that the county was heading towards political instability, Oli said the party needed to move ahead with a new resolution.

“I urge all the members of the House of Representatives and Provincial Assemblies to firmly adhere to the practice of following the party’s decisions, policies, discipline, orders, and directives,” he said.

Stating that the coalition alone cannot form the government, Oli said the number of national parties, has increased to seven from four in 2017.

“As a result, no one is in a position to talk about the formation of the government and it is unknown what kind of the government will be formed under whose leadership,” he said.

No matter what Oli said on Tuesday for public consumption, he is not leaving any stone unturned to break the alliance and form a new one under his party. Oli seemed more interested in retaining the post of President with the UML and he is ready to make any compromise to get the post of President.

He has already offered the post of PM to NC and the Maoist Centre, because he knows well that if the C and the Maoist Centre are separated, it would be easier for him to have a government in his favour while retaining the post of president for the sitting president or any other new face.

His recent claims that his party was ready to support the NC-led government for full five years intended to divide the ruling alliance.

Of course, Oli does not want to lose important positions for five years by easily allowing the present NC-led government to form forming a new government and get the post of president, and he has been applying every tactic to break the alliance.
