The upshot of a week and more of dizzy, high voltage political drama is that the much publicized move by anti-Koirila Congress leaders recommending to the King that interim Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirila be sacked has been abruptly reversed.
That policy summersault came in the shape of an unexpected decision by the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting yesterday which endorsed the Koirala government and the Koirala-recommended snap poll slated for November 13.
The key decisions of the CWC were that the Nepali Congress would go to the polls “unitedly”, that “all intra-party differences had been resolved”, and that Koirala, party president Krishna Prasad Bhattarai and general secretary Mahendra Narayan Nidhi would not be contesting the polls ‘of their own accord’.
