Who will be the next PM from NC?

By Our Reporter

The ruling alliance of five-plus parties is contesting the elections without naming its next Prime Minister while the CPN-UML has forwarded KP Sharma Oli as its new PM after the polls.

When no one is named as PM from NC, several leaders of NC are contesting the elections as the would-be-PM of the party.

Although Sher Bahadur Deuba is the party president, and he is likely to become the parliamentary party leader in NC, he is now openly challenged by general secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa, who has publicly said that he would contest the election of the parliamentary party to become the PM. Thapa is a candidate in Kathmandu constituency-4. He is strongly backed by another general secretary Bishwa Prakash Sharma, who is contesting the election from Jhapa 1.

Besides Thapa, Dr Shekhar Koirala is also projected as the next PM in NC. Shekhar is contesting the poll from Morang 6.

Ram Chandra Paudel, Prakashman Singh and Arjun Nara Singh KC are also expressing their desire to become the PM, but they are not likely to challenge Deuba as has done by Thapa.

CPN Maoist Centre chief Pushpa Kamal Dahal said in Tanahun the other day that Paudel could become the new PM should he win the poll with a big margin while Bishwa Prakash Sharma said in Jhapa that if Gagan Thapa is backtracking from his claim to become new PM, he himself will be ready to take the responsibility.

Probably, NC will lead the next government if the ruling alliance win the majority seats. But Deuba may not be an unchallenged PM as in the past, because the Gagan and Koirala will try to oust him in the parliamentary party leader election. However, Dahal and Oli may never be challenged as they had a strong grip on the party. Moreover, Oli had already ousted the leaders who could challenge his leadership in the party.
