An apeal to the voters

On/Off the Record

By P.R. Pradhan

Coming Sunday is an important day for us. We have the opportunity to choose the candidates whom we like. Perhaps, many of us have already decided to whom to vote. Our one-time mistake may elect the wrong person to lead us. When we elected the wrong people, we lost our precious time in the past. Those cheaters, thieves, corrupts and looters got elected and destroyed all national organs and we have reached nowhere. Since 1990, we are continuously electing the wrong people into leadership, and that is why we are suffering today.

In the name of an offensive move, the Nepali politicos followed the Maoist agenda completely imposed by the Indo-West powers. Nepali people had never demanded republicanism, federalism and secularism. These are the Indo-West agendas imposed on us to destroy this beautiful, economically prosperous nation. The need of the time is that we should remain united and vote for the party which is against foreigners’ agendas; which is against corruption and which is for good governance.

Unfortunately, people who are against the Indo-West agendas, are divided into many small groups. Some of them are lauding for boycotting the vote, which is not wise. Let’s be united and let’s vote for the party supporting our agendas and opposing foreign agendas. This is the opportunity to save the nation and to say no to foreign intimidation.

Maybe, we cannot ensure the majority but we can make our voice strong in the federal parliament by sending a maximum number of the MPs. We are aware that those old faces are working for the foreigners’ interests; they are corrupt and exploiting the national coffer by making the nation and the people poor. We must try our best to defeat them.

Among the candidates, there are also candidates having a clean image and clean vision. For instance, Rastriya Prajatantr Party chairman Rajendra Lingden has expressed the commitment to launching anti-corruption derive. Rabindra Mishra, a well-educated intellectual, believes, the nation should be above all. Should not we allow them to bring on track the nation’s derailed democracy?

The present ruling alliance lacks a clear vision. The leaders are saying that they have developed the alliance to safeguard “loktantra”. How is “loktanatra” in fact? It has become a loot-tantra. The nation is compelled to pay salaries to those around 40 thousand elected representatives. Besides, the nation is paying salaries to their aides and also many other facilities to them. The nation is lending money just to feed them. The nation’s loan burden has inclined to an alarming level and if such a trend will continue, surely, the country will be bankrupt in the near future. Hundreds of Nepali youths are doing dangerous and dirty jobs in the Gulf countries and the nation’s economic activities are solely dependent on the remittance revenue sent by our youths from foreign countries. Local farmers are unable to get fertilizers on time, moreover, they don’t get an appropriate price for their products as the government has encouraged importing agro-products from India. In the name of the open and free market economy, the government not only closed down many nation-run industries but also developed a trade policy encouraging imports and discouraging local industrialists. Today, Nepal has turned into a dump market of Indian products. The government is doing business and making a huge amount of profit by imposing taxes on imported products. The government, in fact, should be for providing services and facilities to the people but in Nepal, the government is for exploiting the general public by imposing a heavy amount of taxes. The government is spending such revenue in the general sector, which is known as an unproductive expenditure. Health and education are the basic services expected by the people but it is out of reach from the lower and middle-class population. The leaders are under the influence of big mafias and now, such mafias, by influencing the political leadership through an attractive sum of money, are contesting the election. We must identify them and stop them from becoming MPs. We must stop those liars and cheaters who are time and again cheating people. The present alliance is unethical and lacks an ideological base but a design to rule the nation turn by turn by those corrupt thugs. Let’s vote for our beliefs, let’s not vote to become the slaves of the political leaders!
