Kathmandu, 12 November: National flag carrier Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) is planning to operate international flights from Gautam Buddha International Airport in Bhairahawa, Rupandehi by December this year. Archana Khadka, the spokesperson of Nepal Airlines, informed that preparations are underway to operate international flights from Bhairahawa by the end of December. According to her, a committee formed under the coordination of NAC’s Commercial Director Janak Raj Kalakheti for this purpose is studying the operation of flights.
Spokesperson Khadka said consultations are being held with the stakeholders as per the plan to operate commercial flights by December end after taking a decision from the board meeting of the NAC after submitting the study report.
“Preparations are being made to operate flights by the end of December. The board will take a decision after the committee’s report on which destinations to fly ”, she said.
At present, Kuwait’s Jazeera Airlines operates three flights a week from Gautam Buddha Airport.
Nepal Airlines has been operating international flights to 10 destinations in eight countries including three in India. The airline has two wide-body A-330 and two narrow-body A-320 aircraft for international flights.
Himalaya Airlines has been operating regular chartered flights to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, since last week, five and a half months after the opening of the commercial operation of Gautam Buddha Airport. The airline is operating one chartered flight daily.
