20th National Congress of CPC concludes electing Xi as party general secretary

Kathmandu, 22 October: The week-long 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) concluded today by electing Xi Jinping as party general secretary for the third tenure. 

The National Congress, which started on 16 October in Beijing has decided to strengthen Xi’s thoughts further.

The National Congress has elected 205 central committee members. 

Meanwhile, four senior leaders have got retirement, reports state. Standing Committee members Li Keqiang, Li Chansu, Wany Yang and Han Heng have retired. 

The Sunday meeting of the newly elected central committee will elect the politburo and politburo standing committee. 

Along with the election of Xi to the post of the party general secretary, he will assume the office of the President for the third time.
