Following the successful signing of the MCC treaty, the Americans have reinforced their presence in Nepal and are now desperately waiting for an opportunity to sign the SPP. Geographically disconnected by thousands of miles, the US has almost no economic benefits from small land-locked countries like Nepal. So again, “Why should the US be interested in Nepal and reinforce their presence?” Of course, the answer is China.
China, as neighbour, has gradually demonstrated a strong presence in Nepal. The reconstruction of the Ring Road to Pokhara Airport and the grand idea of the China-Nepal Railway signed by the two countries for preparing a detailed project report with Chinese aid display a confident and powerful presence.
China wants to rise but the US will not allow it to be on the offensive. The US has many cards at hand, including Tibet, Xinjiang, South China Sea, Hong Kong, Taiwan and more. Not to forget, the alliance group of little brothers behind them, such as NATO, Indo-Pacific Strategy, QUAD, and so on. Just walk around Thamel Street and you will see a street full of bookstores with a monopoly on Western publications. By monopolizing publications, the US and the West hold the right to interpret history, judge right and wrong, and disseminate moral beliefs. Meanwhile, most of our social elites have completed their studies by reading textbooks from the US or the West, and have involuntarily accepted the ideological shaping of the US and the West.
In the US, mass shooting incidents occur almost every day, racial conflicts have intensified into the “Black Lives Matter” movement, the industry has been seriously hollowed out, massive vandalism and looting took place in the Capitol building and the former President’s private residence have been searched by the armed forces. With these facts in front of us, the majority of the elite is still unable to shake off their worship and fear of the US as an icon of spiritual and material civilization. It is no accident that our ruling clique finally passed and approved the MCC that cost us part of our national sovereignty.
By all means, following the end of the Second World War, the US found itself as an undeniable superpower and manifested in its overseas presence, but China has its own history of existence as well and the Chinese civilization has lasted for 5000 years without interruption. In modern times, Mao Zedong miraculously integrated and established a powerful central government, larger than the whole of Europe. Along with the guidance of Deng Xiaoping, China has miraculously grown into the world’s largest industrial nation in just one generation. Moreover, under Xi Jinping’s leadership, the possibility of another miracle in China is very high. This position of leadership and China’s growth potential makes the US very nervous, fabricating this great game of the century between China and the US inevitable.
The US, with its imperial will and strategic vision, is trying to use Nepal’s geopolitical position to deter or even attack China, which is difficult to contain. The mission of Nepalese politicians should be for preventing Nepal from becoming another Ukraine.
